Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 27, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how the World Rock Paper Scissors Association ("WRPSA," "we," "us") collects, uses, and protects information when you use our website and services at wrpsa.com (the "Platform").
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Information You Provide
- Account details (display name, email address, username)
- Profile information (avatar image, bio)
- Payment information (processed by Stripe; we do not store full card numbers)
- Content you create (chat messages, social posts, tournament descriptions)
- Support requests and correspondence
1.2 Information Collected Automatically
- Device and browser information (user agent, screen resolution, operating system)
- IP address and approximate geolocation (country/region level)
- Usage data (pages viewed, features used, match history, session duration)
- Performance data (error reports via Sentry)
1.3 Cookies and Similar Technologies
We use the following cookies:
- Essential cookies - session authentication (httpOnly, Secure). Required for the Platform to function.
- Analytics - Google Analytics and PostHog, to see which pages are used, and Sentry for error tracking and performance monitoring. Whether analytics cookies are on before you choose depends on where you are (see below).
- Advertising - Google AdSense cookies, for signed-out visitors only, and only after you turn advertising on. See “Advertising” below.
Where you are decides the default. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, Switzerland and Quebec, and whenever we cannot tell where you are (including anywhere in Canada when the province is unknown), analytics cookies stay off until you choose “Accept all” or switch them on under “Manage”; until then Google Analytics receives only a cookieless ping with no identifier. Everywhere else analytics cookies are on by default and we show a notice; choose “Manage / opt out” to turn them off. Advertising cookies are off by default everywhere. We work out your region from the country (and, in Canada, the province) that our hosting provider attaches to each request; we do not store it or link it to you.
Browser privacy signals. If your browser sends Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track, we treat it as an opt-out of analytics and advertising wherever you are: no Google Analytics tag loads, not even a cookieless ping, and no analytics or advertising cookies are set.
You can change your choice at any time with “Cookie preferences” in the site footer. Once you choose, we remember that choice on your device and it takes precedence over the regional default. You can also delete cookies in your browser settings; disabling essential cookies will prevent you from logging in.
2. How We Use Your Information
- Provide, operate, and improve the Platform
- Match you with opponents and calculate Elo ratings
- Maintain leaderboards, statistics, and achievement records
- Process payments and manage your wallet balance
- Send transactional emails (password resets, match results, tournament updates)
- Monitor platform security and prevent abuse
- Enforce our Terms of Service
3. Information Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only in these circumstances:
- Service providers - Stripe (payments), Sentry (error tracking), Google (analytics and, for signed-out visitors, advertising through Google AdSense), and infrastructure providers who process data on our behalf under strict confidentiality agreements
- Legal requirements - When required by law, subpoena, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of WRPSA or others
- Public profile data - Your username, avatar, Elo rating, and match statistics are visible to other users
Advertising (Google AdSense)
Signed-out visitors may see ads served by Google AdSense. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this website or other websites.
Google's use of advertising cookies, including the DoubleClick cookie, enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising at www.aboutads.info or, in Europe, www.youronlinechoices.eu.
Google's advertising code loads only after you turn advertising on, with “Accept all” or the Advertising switch under “Manage”, wherever you are. Otherwise no ads and no advertising cookies are loaded. You can change your choice at any time with “Cookie preferences” in the site footer. Visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland are not shown Google ads.
Ads are shown only to signed-out visitors. Signed-in members, free or paid, never see ads, and ads never appear during matches, on camera or dispute screens, at checkout, or on pages for children, parents or classrooms.
4. Data Retention
- Account data - Retained while your account is active. Upon deletion request, personally identifiable information is erased within 30 days; anonymized match statistics may be retained for leaderboard integrity.
- Chat messages - Retained for 90 days, then automatically purged.
- Payment records - Retained for 7 years as required by tax and financial regulations.
- Server logs - Retained for 30 days for security monitoring.
5. Security
We implement industry-standard security measures including encrypted connections (TLS), httpOnly authentication cookies, bcrypt password hashing, rate limiting, and regular security audits. No system is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
